American Revolutionary Poem/Song Project

This assignment is due:
Thursday, February 11, 2010.
Social Studies Project Objective: This project is to reinforce your understanding of a person, or event of the American Revolutionary War.
Literacy Project Objective: This project is designed to help students understand and work within the genre of poetry and poetic styles.
Directions:
1. You are creating your own American Revolutionary War poem/song from the list of topics below.
2. On looseleaf paper, create a rough draft of your poem/song and make sure to include the following details.
A. Select a poetic style from the hand-out given out in class.
B. Select a topic (person or event) related to the American Revolutionary War.
C. Gather information about your topic, and begin a rough draft by placing the information into proper sequencing of the person or event.
D. Include as many relevant pieces of information about your topic within your work.
3. Proofread and review your draft.
Remember do you follow and complete the project directions -- is your information relevant or irrelevant?
Check for any spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, and add or remove phrases as needed.
4. Complete a typed final draft that you would be proud to present to your classmates.

Your assignment will be graded on your factual information included and well as your poetic creativity.
The assignment counts as a FULL test grade in the third quarter grade period.
Students are required to complete and submit all parts (the (2) poetry work sheets, your rough draft, any editing, and the final product) on time.
