Aim: How did the pioneers expand into the frontier?

1. The Pioneers and the Frontier

   1. The frontier was disputed land between the 13 English colonies and French Louisiana.
   2. Pioneers, such as, Daniel Boone, explored throughout the frontier.



2. Frontier Roads

1. Frontier roads were rough, narrow, dirt trails, usually from old Indian trails.
2. The Great Wagon Road went from Philadelphia to South Carolina.
3. The Wilderness Road traveled west into what is now Kentucky and Tennessee.



3. Frontier Life

1. Land, animals, and food were plentiful.
2. However, life in the frontier was dangerous -- no schools, medicine, stores, or protection from hostile Native American tribes and wild animals.
