Getting Better Grades
LIFE IS ALL ABOUT CHOICES.
Okay, so you want to do better in school? Go through the following tips and maybe you will
pick up something to help you get through the school day, the school year, and even life. Scroll
down or click on one of the tip buttons to go to another tip.

Tip 1 Tip 2 Tip 3 Tip 4 Tip 5
Tip 1. Let's start with ATTITUDE.
- Life is all about choices. It's up to you to decide whether you're going to be in a good
or bad mood. Think about it!
- Make an effort to start your day with a positive, good attitude.
- Remember, if someone else is in a bad mood, don't let that interfere with your positive mood.
Along with that, if you are having problems at home, don't bring them to school with you. Enter
the school knowing that no one in the building gave you a hard time. The opposite is true as well.
Don't let a problem at school interfere with your life at home.
- If a friend is in trouble and upset, don't let that ruin your positive day. Try to help your
friend, but always keep a positive outlook.
- If things get so bad (anywhere, home, school, outside), take a deep breath and take a few seconds
to relax and try not to react to what's upsetting you. This is harder than it sounds to do, but
give it a try.

Tip 2. Being PREPARED.
- Everyone makes mistakes -- it's apart of being human. However, if you organize your things
(bedroom, clothes, CD's, schoolwork, whatever), then life becomes a lot easier. Organize your
school papers by section. If your book is not organized, why would you want to TRY to study. If
you know where the work is, then studying is made much easier. Don't let yourself get stressed-out
over something you could have prevented by simply keeping an organized notebook. Think about it!
- Be prepared everyday. Before you leave for school, make sure you have paper, AT LEAST,
two pens or pencils, your books, and whatever else you need to get through the school day. Nothing
can ruin a good day faster then forgetting something important. And, as a teacher, nothing
upsets a teacher more, than seeing a student coming "unprepared" to school.

Tip 3. Class BEHAVIOR.
- What you have to remember is that your behavior can enhance or destroy YOUR grade. So,
going back to Tip 1 - why make your day harder? Why put yourself in a situation that will
only cause you to have a negative attitude? So, you if think a lesson is boring, okay, just
deal with it by paying attention, and sitting quietly. Don't worry the period will end,
sooner or later. Believe me, as a history teacher (and I love history), I know that some of
the topics can sound boring, but we have to cover them in class and get through them.
- Part of teacher's job is to enforce the rules of the class -- not to make your life miserable.
If you get away with breaking rules, then why should any of the students follow the rules? For
example, if you get away with not doing your homework, then why should the other students do it?
If you get out of your seat, then why can't the other students get out of their seat? If everyone
did what they wanted, at anytime in the classroom, then how are you suppose to learn? Think about it!
- Try to remember that a teacher has rules to follow as well.

Tip 4. Studying for TESTS?
- Okay, this is a tough topic to discuss, but we'll give it a shot.
- No one person can teach you how to study. Studying is a very personalized trait. What may work
for someone else, may not work for you. Find a way your comfortable studying a topic and go
for it.
- Use tips number 2 & 3: Organize your notes, so studying
is easier, and remember to pay attention in class. Your notes are just words on a page. If you
listen to the lesson in class and then study your notes, I guarantee, your tests will be easier
to take and your grades will go up. Think about it!
LIFE IS ALL ABOUT CHOICES.
Tip 5. Why do well in SCHOOL?
- There are not that many things in life that are free. If someone wanted to give you a free CD,
why not take it and say thanks. If someone wanted to give you a free car, why not take it and say
thanks.
- So, why is that when students are given a free education. why not be real greedy and take all of
it?
- Also, remember, the grades you get now, stay with you for the rest of your life! It's what I
call "looking at the big picture." Your records will be seen by several different people: high
schools, colleges, and even future employers. Why make yourself look bad? Think about it!
